Brown hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and an average build – Waldo considers himself and his physical appearance perfectly ordinary. His clothes are all muted colors, and his sense of style harkens back to 1950’s Harvard men, embodying the unexceptional version of the American prep look. By the grace of Merlin, a quirky appreciation for colored and patterned socks and ties saves him from being too bland, and glasses give him a little mystery.

  • Height: 5'6"
  • Weight: 148 lbs
  • Distinguishing Features: Always in possession of a pair of barely-flattering, horn-rimmed glasses.

Consistently uninspired by the existence of others, a general disregard for people made it very easy for Waldo to focus on his studies in school; however, he didn’t study towards becoming an adroit wizard. Wandmaking was the drive behind his impassioned trips to the library and his merciless studying. His dream was to become the world’s premier wandmaker, just like his father and his father before him. Nothing would stop him, leading some to admire his devotion to the art and his diligence while others, disenchanted with his glibness and pejorative indifference to social etiquette, were often vexed by him.

Eventually he mastered the art of lying and faking his feelings, allowing the remorseless, apathetic wizard to function in typical wizarding society. Nevertheless, his daily interactions with normal people in the magical community grew stale for him early, and his interests have broadened to satisfy the incessant need to feel some form of a connection.

Notable Skills

A trait handed down from one Ollivander to the next, Waldo possesses an incredible memory for the wands he makes. His memory extends to other areas as well but undoubtedly serves him most strongly in remembering the wands created with his own hands. He is nevertheless well versed in the wands of his predecessors, and those made by his contemporaries. He is also exceptionally observant of fine details, has a mind for investigation and detective work, and is uncommonly good at detecting lies. What kind of liar would he be if he couldn't?

Magical Skills

  • Strengths:
    • wandmaker Waldo, just as other members of the Ollivander family, is considered among the best - if not the best - wandmaker in Britain.
      • wand versatility: Waldo has used many wands besides his own to great affect. This includes wands whose allegiance was not fully won.
      • duelling is a talent of Waldo's by virtue of his obsession with wands and knowledge of their abilities.
    • charms: Waldo knows a great many charms, and is capable of using many non-verbally.
    • transfigurations: Waldo has shown some skill in tranfigurations, particularly conjuring.
  • Weaknesses:
    • Patronus charms always fail; they require happy memories, and Waldo is uniquely…limited.
    • Creatures require care and attention, neither of which Waldo has ever afforded them, leaving him woefully ignorant in matters of animal care.
    • Potions have been a thorn in his side since school. They should be simple.
  • Notable Abilities:
    • Occlumency is easy for Waldo. Apathetic and emotionally shallow, hiding and faking his thoughts and memories comes natural.

Brief History

Heir to a celebrated legacy of master wandmakers, the pressure on Waldo to succeed in the family business where his father and his father's father failed was crushing. Every chance presented to remind Waldo of his heritage was taken, and every opportunity to teach the young wizard the tricks of the trade was capitalized on. But a few abnormalities in Waldo’s personality put favor on his young brother, Izaiah, who wasn’t as enamored with the life of a wandmaker as the rest of the family was. His aspirations and dreams exceeded the meek visions of the future his father and grandfather owned, whose drive to pursue nothing but wands had blunted their ability. Waldo assumed the position of proprietor of Ollivanders Wand Shop, and has since employed his brother’s fresh take on wandmaking in the wake of his death. A tragic accident (which remains unaccounted for) ended up killing Izaiah. Waldo is content to bare the burden of the shop, honoring his brother's memory with new and inventive methods to wandmaking while running the shop in Diagon Alley, and supplying wands to the Hogsmeade branch.
